Since the initial publication of scientific papers on the application of creativity, Professors Pros Vanosmael and Roger De Bruyn, who both taught at the university of Antwerp, were convinced of the significance of creative thinking. In 1977, they took the initiative to establish a non-profit organization called the “Center for the Development of Creative Thinking”, as an offshoot of the University of Antwerp.
Before long, companies started seeking the COCD’s expertise in creative thinking. The COCD began conducting workshops and pioneering educational programs on this topic. They effectively became advocates for fostering creativity and cultivated an extensive network in both Belgium and the Netherlands. In the realm of professional creativity, COCD courses set the standard, attracting individuals seeking to work with creativity in a professional capacity. In addition to these educational endeavors, the COCD also funded scientific research, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Today, the COCD is an integral part of a global network comprising researchers and professionals dedicated to creativity in its broadest sense. While it offers a wealth of knowledge and insights for individuals who are not professional creatives or those indirectly involved with creativity, it may not provide as much specialized information for those already working in creative professions.
