The Freemasonry Museum has established a prominent presence within the Masonic House, situated at Javastraat 2B in The Hague. Its significance is attributed to its exceptional library, collections, and archives, positioning it as one of the foremost institutions of its kind.
During my tenure as a Grand Lodge Officer, coupled with my background as a designer, I undertook the responsibility of elevating the museum to a higher level of professionalism compared to its previous location on Koninginnegracht. This endeavor was made feasible through financial support from various sources, including the Order itself, the Institute for Masonic Education, and the Association of Friends of the Order’s Collections. Collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders who all contributed to the project’s culmination, I assumed the role of formulating guiding principles, outlining a comprehensive set of requirements, enlisting suitable personnel, managing the budget, adhering to timelines, and ensuring a commendable standard of quality.
In essence, my role was to oversee the successful realization of the museum.
The comprehensive narrative of the museum is eloquently presented in the catalogue, serving as an informative guide for visitors as they navigate through the exhibits. Presented here are select pages relevant to this narrative.
The exhibition’s design and the creation of the catalogue were masterminded by Donald Jansen, complemented by photography courtesy of Gerlinde Geus.
